The History Of Food Stands As A High Interesting Topic
The history of food stands as a high interesting topic among students and scholars alike. Not much is known about the types of foods Romans enjoyed, however a cookbook survives containing a small glimpse into the culinary world of the ancient Roman empire. Three dishes in particular stand out as delicious and health conscience to the modern nutritionist. The first course of the Roman Coena (a very elaborate mealtime) is called Gustatio. This delectable Roman feast shall begin with a light and savory appetizer called gustum de praecoquis (otherwise known as Starter with Apricots). Thirdly, excite the feast guests with a finishing touch of aliter dulcia (a type of dessert). This nutty pastry will entice any ancient Roman into staying for the entire meal, and its aroma will surely please the crowd. To prepare the dish, gather the following ingredients: two hundred and fifty grams of coarsely ground nuts, one hundred grams of coarsely ground stone-pine kernels, three to four tablespoons of honey, one teaspoon of minced rue, fifty milliliters of passum, fifty milliliters of milk, two eggs, honey to drip on afterwards, and a small amount of ground pepper. Chefs should follow these simple instructions: mesh the pepper, pine kernels, honey, rue and passum with milk and eggs until a dough is formed. Boil the dough to a decent doneness and serve topped with honey and a light sprinkle of fresh ground pepper.
